Post-Doc position: "Attentional Rhythms and their Brain-Body Interactions"

We’re looking for a Post-Doc to work on a project that examines slow regular changes in EEG markers of attentional focus and their interactions with autonomic (gastric, cardiac, and respiratory) rhythms. The project's working hypothesis is that slow cortico-autonomic cycles coordinate and optimise brain function.

The Post-Doc will have access to multiple EEG-autonomic datasets already collected, and apply state-of-the-art analytic methods to test the project's main hypothesis. The project will be supervised by Benedikt Zoefel and involve various local, national and international collaborations. The contract will initially run for 14 months, but an extension is possible.

The successful applicant will join a lively research institute in Toulouse, a thriving city in the South-West of France. The CerCo has in-house EEG, MRI, and brain stimulation facilities and is currently being equipped with a new OPM-MEG system. The Post-Doc is expected to analyse data, write scientific manuscripts, present at conferences, contribute to lab meetings and social events, and help with student supervision. The salary is determined by national guidelines (min. 2990€ gross, depending on experience).

Requirements:
•    PhD in neuroscience, cognitive science, or similar
•    Programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
•    Experience in the analysis of EEG and autonomic data

•    Fluent in English in both speaking and writing

The starting date of the position is September 2026 by default, but can be adjusted if necessary.

To apply, please send a CV, including the name of two potential references, and a letter of motivation to Benedikt Zoefel (benedikt.zoefel at cnrs.fr). Review of applications will start on 1st June 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.
